Dunlap Leadership Academy is in their second year of PBIS( Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) training through Fresno County. This is a three year program that focuses on each tier of behavior support. The first year we were identifying the behaviors that need support at DLA, which in our environment is primarily the motivation to complete 6 classes per semester. We were so excited to receive the Bronze Level Champion Model award for the work and accomplishments we made in our 1st year and are working towards earning a Silver Award for our 2nd year of implementation. This year our focus has been on strengthening the current support systems available to our tier 2 students.
The students have given some suggestions as to motivators and incentives they would like to earn and the staff is now working on some behavior markers to give students attainable goals in order to earn those motivators.
DLA has chosen PRIDE as their Behavioral Expectations:
P - Perseverance
R - Respect
I - Integrity
D - Drive
E - Excellence
We have specifically defined what these behaviors look like in given areas of our working school whether that be at an actual school site or off campus site. It is the behaviors on the PRIDE matrix that we hope to practice and make a permanent part of our character as DLA staff and students.
In addition to our PRIDE expectations to guide student behavior and promote positive character, DLA staff and administration follow a response to intervention model when addressing the needs of tier I, II, and III students to ensure a systematic response to student needs.
